The Alley Cat (1941 film)
''The Alley Cat'' is an American animated short film, released in 1941 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.〔Jeff Lenburg, ''Who's Who in Animated Cartoons: An International Guide to Film and Television's Award-Winning and Legendary Animators''. ISBN 978-1557836717. p. 129.〕 Directed by Hugh Harman,〔 the film centres on Butch and Toodles Galore, two cats who were subsequently integrated as recurring characters into the Tom and Jerry series of shorts.
Voiced by Harry Lang, Butch is a black alley cat who is instantly smitten with Toodles, a female cat he sees on the balcony of her wealthy family's penthouse apartment on Park Avenue. He serenades her, but the butler sends the family's bulldog after him — but after outwitting the dog, Butch makes it into the apartment to dance with his new love.〔("Animated Film: Warner Brothers and MGM Animated Shorts" ).
